This is a cool video created by an agency called JESS3 which, by the way, has a very cool web page. It shows the current state of the internet by the numbers, which by the way – have already changed. We won’t hold that against JESS3 though.

I’m not sure if this ad passes the “Is My Ad A Cliche?” test. I mean, it is an ad for dog treats so it seems like it should pass. Either way, it’s so damn amazing. Advertisers, you’ll get me with slow motion every time – but slow motion dogs?? Give me a break that’s just too good. They love those treats, you can tell. I’m thinking about getting a bag of Pedigree just to give to dogs I see on the street.

This ad comes with a Facebook page (good on you), and a “Denture Your Dog” page where you can put up a photo of your dog and add dentures to it. That’ll be sure to get you to the site where you’ll then send a photo of your dentured dog to your friends, who will then dentures their dogs. Then they can send the photo of Rusty to their family who will laugh all night long at how funny Rusty looks with dentures. They’ll talk about how they should denture their dog Charlie who would look SO FUNNY with dentures cause he’s old and greying. Then they can e-mail a photo of Charlie back. You see how the campaign goes…

I made this of my mom’s dog so she wouldn’t have to ask me how to do it later.

I found this ad via laughing squid.

It’s been brought to my attention that OK GO has released their newest video on their website. What I like about OK GO is that they just keep coming back to me. I feel like I don’t have to try with them, they just always appear. This time from my friend who resides on the Internet as @beebsbanter.

If you like the game Mouse Trap or Rube Goldberg Machines then you’ll love this video. Singer Damian Kulash devised this machine with a team from Syyn Labs who apparently worked long and hard to make the machine work. The LA Times quoted Kulash as saying “Its only purpose is to be awesome,”, which in and of its self is awesome.

Here is the first part of several videos that OK GO plans on posting on their site of the making of this video.

I made a claim in my last blog post “Stop Babies and Puppies“, that the AICP did not have their video on YouTube. Bad journalism by me – they’ll let anyone blog these days, won’t they‽ Who’s running the Internet anyway? And for that matter, why is Internet capitalized yet my wife is allowed to use it in Scrabble? Where was I? Ah yes. I said they did not have this clever video on YouTube, which is totally wrong. I didn’t actually go look at Youtube before making that claim. That was my bad and was pointed out to me by a very astute employee over at the AICP. I should have checked Youtube first, then I should have said this.

The AICP was smart enough to put the video on YouTube, after all that’s where the second most searches on the Internet are performed. But really it should have been linked on their site. Or am I expected to go hunt down the video if I want to share it? That’s not really how sharing happens on the Internet. For most of us we click a button – share this on ________ (insert FB, Twitter, etc.), and BAM, it’s up. Clearly people are making it to their site, but how? I’d love to know this stat actually. AICP, if you want to e-mail me back with how many hits you’re getting on stopbabiesandpuppies.com and where they’re coming from, that’d be a hoot! There, I said it.

So let me try to make this more understandable. If you go to stopbabiesandpuppies.com you can watch their video. If you then want to share that video with your friends, you have to tweet or Facebook a message that reads something like “Hey, there’s a really funny video over at Stop Babies and Puppies dot com, you should all head over there to watch the funny video that I am talking about – then you should come back to Twitter or Facebook or wherever you are reading this message and post that link to your friends who can then go watch the video over there too!” OR, you could search Youtube like I didn’t do, and see if they have the video and then share it from there. It’s just not reasonable to think that anyone is going to go hunt down a video they just watched on your site – or that someone is going to follow a link away from Facebook to watch a video when they’re watching videos there all day.

If a big site like boingboing or Huffington Post pick this video up then it’s smooth sailing, don’t even worry about traction. But that video needs to be embeddable from everywhere, especially your site.

I want to make something clear. I am in no way putting down the AICP, they are spreading a hilarious campaign. I think it comes down to the site itself. I’ve been told that this site was done in Flex. Yeah, I don’t really know what that is either, but my understanding is that it’s Flex that makes it so the URL up top doesn’t change, thus I can’t send any specific links, including the video.

AICP, a few more notes now that I have your attention:
1) Good job on the Facebook link at the bottom of your site. When I get to your Facebook fan page, I should be able to watch the video. May I suggest that you upload your video to Facebook as well? You have 643 fans who would (probably) gladly share that with all of their friends – that number = big.
2) You have someone very smart working over there on your team. Kristen tracked down my blog, got my contact info and sent me an e-mail. She’s on the ball. She’d be great in customer service, and outreach, and clearly deserves a raise – but needs a Twitter account.
Advertising is not new – advertising online is new and changing rapidly. That’s why this campaign is awesome, but has it’s online hiccups.

My wife works in advertising so we find ourselves talking about ads pretty frequently. More specifically the company she works for does advertising for health care and life style companies. Claire can joke about the commercials that her company and companies like hers make. You know – the ones where if you don’t listen closely, you may end up with a missing arm, heart disease, birth defects and death. A woman is walking through a forest of flowers, can’t see a damn thing, but then they peel away the cloudy sticker on the camera and PRESTO, she can see! “Thank you Claritin”. Her company did not do that commercial, but I’m still pretty sure they do produce commercials that can cause mild cases of diarrhea.

Claire came across this ad titled “Stop Babies and Puppies” and sent it my way. According to them (the AICP) “there is a menacing force overtaking the ad industry – advertising cliches”, these clichés especially include babies and puppies. The AICP (Association of Independent Commercial Producers) is now taking submissions to their award show.

Mistake – they have a clever video on their web page but it’s not posted on YouTube or any other service – it appears to be hosted on their site. I assume the reasoning for this is that if I like the video, I’ll send you the link. I, being any random person who watches said video, and you being my friend. Well for the most part they’re wrong. I’m putting it on this blog because I write about such things, but I’m not sharing it on Twitter and I’m not sharing it through Facebook. The mistake; can’t embed the video in all my favorite places – it could have reached all of my friends, followers, and fans (The 3 Fs™ [I just made that up] ©/™). What I’m saying is: Always make sure your funny content can be posted to your 3Fs™.

On the plus side, they have some creative content that makes me giggle. The first being that fancy flow cart that will answer the question “Is my ad a cliché”? Click here if you’d like to see it close up. They also have a “cliché” ad machine where you can create your own cliché ads using their videos of babies and puppies, put text over it, and edit them in the site. Lastly, they have posters, wallpapers, and stencils you can download to help support the cause of NO advertising with clichés – all of which I’m sure millions of Americans will download and use regularly (that was sarcastic – you’d see it on my face if you were sitting here with me.)

If you’d like to see the whole ad campaign, you can check it out at http://stopbabiesandpuppies.com

There are so many reasons why this ad campaign by American Apparel works so well. Ok, really there are two reasons. Reason number one, lots of butts. Boy butts, girl butts, everyone’s butts. Second reason, voting and ranking. Not only do you get to click through the photos, you get to vote 1 – 5 on the quality of butt. One can only assume (pun intended) that this could become addicting. In addition to the addictiveness of ranking peoples butts – you have the opportunity to share butts on Twitter and Facebook. Twitter offering a link back to the voting page so your Twitter followers can start voting, and Facebook leaves a post on your wall so all your friends can see a butt that you particularly liked. (Insert Butt-Facebook joke here.)

Why would you put a picture of your butt up on the American Apparel site you may ask. For $300 – duh! Plus, you can put that on your resume!

What really blew my mind was how I came to find this campaign. Someone I follow on Tumblr took a screen shot of the campaign, just like I have above. But (no pun intended) nowhere on that photo does it say American Apparel. This means that their ad campaigns are strong enough that just from their imagery and type of underwear, I was able to guess that this was coming from them. I went straight to their site, and there it was. Crazy.

Hurry up and post a photo of your butt – don’t lose this chance to have your butt seen by thousands of people and win $300 in the process!

Please link your photo in the comments section (or don’t – ewwwwww).
