I won’t be making it out to SXSW this week – It just didn’t work out this year. But I have a simple request to my friends who will be there. I’d like you to help me be a SXSW meme amongst each other. The idea of a meme simply put by wikipedia is a “unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures”. This can be done a few ways.

Writing: When you’re out this week, and I would have been out with you hashtag #sxsw #ws – The #ws for Whit Scott. The search looks like this.
Speach: When you’re heading out to parties you should remember as a group to invite me. Please invite invisible me verbally. Here is a picture of Thomas, Rachael and invisible me at SXSW last year.
Gestures: You’re all creative, I assume you’ll be able to come up with some Whit style gestures. If I was there it’d probably look like this.

At this point I can’t really get much out of South By South West unless I become a meme. Maybe I’ll even meet people this way… Imagine Thomas Knoll tweeting my hashtag and Ethan noticing it. Ethan asks Thomas what he’s doing, thinks about me, then tags me up for the rest of the conference. This meme can be endless. By the end of the conference, people who don’t know me will think I was there.

In the mean time i’ll be participating in #SXSWSF (south by south west san francisco) – SXSWSF happening now all around us.
I’ve heard you can go to: Temper Trap Expression College 12:30pm, Violent Soho Amoeba records 6pm today (Friday) if you’re actually looking to be around people who are participating in #sxswsf. You can follow the SXSWSF hashtag here.

Here are some of the results of the latest Quiksilver Cypher ad campaign. Kelly Slater, Julian Wilson, Jeremy Flores, and Dane Reynolds were flown down to that lovely little secret spot in Mexico, along with the biggest entourage ever of filmers, photographers, and general support crew to pull this off.

Super slow motion, high speed cameras, and some playful video editing make for a compelling presentation.

Fredo Viola lives in NY, likes making art, and doesn’t have a Twitter account – The first two things are a positive, the third is a critique.

You know those photos of your dad with a thick beard taken 4 years before you were born. They’re grainy, and the color is filled with amazing oranges and yellows, either because photo technology was still working out some kinks, the colors actually looked like that back then, or they were trying to match the colors of the wallpaper and couches of the time. Whichever it might be… LOVE IT!

I hope that 27 years from now, when I look back on the photos of me and my friends today, they are grainy, lost of color, and we have beards.

I think what i’m getting at is that my new D90 is “way” exciting to me right now. I don’t know where to begin with it, but apparently I like making the photos look like old photos.
This particular photo is of Drew, it was taken in 1937. Here is another photo that I’ve played with that was taken in the late 60’s maybe early 70’s, I can’t really remember.

If you know of any decades of photography I should try to create please let me know. Also, you should know I do portraits for $150. What you get is a photo of yourself. I’ll even make it look like an old photo for an additional charge of $20 or a wheel of smoked Gouda.

We even saved some pandas, and remade some ice in the poles, that was super!

But we missed a few things, and for that I am sad, but will dedicate blog space to them in the future. Here is a quick list of stuff that should have made the blog, that you should check out now, and will make the WhitScott.com in the future.

Book Review: Tim Flannery’s The Weather Makers: How Man is Changing the Climate and What it Means for Life on Earth..

This book changed my life, my habits, my outlook on the world, and how I consume in it. I can’t recommend a better book for any of you to read. I’d let you borrow my copy, but someone has it.

Seth Bauer is Editorial Director of The Green Guide for the National Geographic Society. I met him in New Orleans at a sustainable branding conference, and am hoping to get him to talk a little bit about National Geographic’s The Green Guide.

I have been introduced to, or already know, a ton of people doing some really inspiring work in the green industry. To them I send out a special thank you: I wish you could all have been on the blog.

It’s been a fun Green Month. Stay warm (from global warming), stay green, stay healthy, consume less, stop dumping your gas in the ocean, and save a penguin.

Tomorrow I leave for Italy. This is definitely a trip for pleasure, not work or anything else. Claire and I will be playing Ultimate Frisbee on the beaches of Italy for 4 days straight – this is often one of the best weeks of the year.

Just now Claire and I watched a video posted by an online friend of mine Christian Payne. His blog is here if you want to go check it out. All of Christian’s videos that I have seen have been quite compelling, from the funny stuff to the serious stuff, you’ll always watch his work all the way through.

After watching his video I feel that posting about our trip is quite insignificant as far as world events go. So if you’d like to learn more about what we’re doing you can check out last years blog post for Paganello here. I’ll be taking video while we’re gone, hopefully it’ll help you better understand what it is we’re doing at the tournament.

Daniel Brusilovsky:I am very excited too! Thank you for having me…
Whit: So how long have you been doing the Apple Universe show?
Daniel: I started in April of 2007, April 5, 2007 to be exact
Whit: What made you decide to start your show? What was your motivation?
Daniel: Leo Laporte was a big part….he is one of my idols, and I wanted to try the same thing, and now I am one of the biggest teen podcasters!
Whit: That’s very exciting! Congratulations! Do you know how many listeners you have?
Daniel: Thank you…right now, we have over 1,000 worldwide, about 1,000-5,000 page views per day…
Whit: You’re 15 years old right, nearly 16? Great success so early, is this something you think you’ll want to continue to pursue as you prepare to go to college?
Daniel: I just turned 15… I plan to go to college for a broadcasters and new media degree
Whit: Probably a good decision
Daniel: I love doing this
Whit: Who have you been most excited to interview, and what is the coolest event that you have been too?
Daniel: Leo Laporte has been the biggest guest, and the coolest event had to be the Steve Jobs Keynote in 2008
