Since Rolled, work has been interesting. First off, making a film is a larger endeavor than it sounds. Maybe it sounds big to you. It is – especially when you don’t have a lot of money or a full time team. A lot happens after the movie is done too. In fact, I’m still working on a digital release. More on that to come.
Ever since I raised money on Kickstarter I’ve been asked to help friends, and friends of friends with their crowdfunding campaigns. This is probably because of my past work in social media and the success of the Rolled Kickstarter Campaign. I’ve now consulted on at least 5 campaigns, including an album, a play, an apparel company, and a tech company. I’m currently working on three more.
The one I’m most involved in is the first in a ten part trilogy by Drew Manning called Earth Alpha. Drew wrote Rolled,, and three other scripts with me. He’s a dedicated screenwriter and is incredibly talented. We’re turning his first series of scripts into what we’re calling an “illustrated screenplay.” We couldn’t think of another name for it, if you have any ideas, please share. Note: It’s not a novel, it’s three screenplays that will have about thirty comic like images in them – not a graphic novel.
We have some work to do with the project including self-publishing, working with the artist Andrew Steers (who also did the Rolled artwork), and fundraising. We would really like as much input as possible for this project, and yours would be greatly appreciated. You can do this by signing up for the mailing list. You can also follow along on the facebook page.
Additionally, I’ve been working on my second film, Matchmakers. The script has been written by myself, Drew, and we brought our incredibly talented friend Michael Orton-Toliver on board. The script has been about a year in the making. It’s a musical, so it’s been a bit more work than Rolled was. We are currently having the song composed by a very talented Portland-based composer by the name of Eric Nordin. As we fine tune the script and the music, I muse over fundraising this film. If you or someone you know is particularly interested in fundraising, especially for film, I’d love to chat. I have much to learn, and Matchmakers will be looking to raise far more than my last film.
The other two projects I’m consulting on are a board game and an apparel company. If you or someone you know has made and distributed a board game or worked with manufacturers, please contact me through my blog, twitter or facebook. I’m also going to try to be more diligent about sending emails via my mailing list. If you’re already signed up there, expect something soon – if you’re not, feel free to sign up!
