All-in-One Contacts App?

January 5th, 2010 · 6 Comments

I’ve been looking for a contacts organization app (for Mac or online) that does a bunch of things all-in-one. I’m going to keep this post short because I want you to read it all.

The App I’d like will do these things.
1) Stores all of my contacts (Gmail does this, as does contacts on my computer, as does an old fashioned Rolodex)

2) Allows me to tag my contacts by location. If I’m going to New York and I want to remember who I know there, I can search “New York” and it’ll tell me.

3) I’d like to be able to take notes about the person. For example; “Dan Martell is the guy I had lunch with, he gives out great advice”.

4) I want to be able to set reminders of when to contact someone again. Contact Drew once a week, contact Sally once every three months, contact John once a year.

5) Not so important but would be nice: integrated with Gmail so I can just send out an e-mail from there. Don’t care if I have to leave the app to go to Gmail though.

Please don’t tell me the answer is Plaxo, unless you’ve used it yourself, and you’re willing to show me how to do it. Plaxo drives me crazy.

Reply to me by comment or twitter. Thanks.

    I use addressbook.app for 1,2,3,5
    gist.com would handle 1,2,3,5
I have some scripts for 4
I almost started development of a product that would do 1,2,3,4,5

Best bet is to signup for http://flowtown.com and @ebloch and @danmartell for #4

check out followup.cc. it’s not exactly what you need but it’s good.

Whit, I didn’t read the post [ you know me ] – however the comments seem solid.

    +1 re: followup.cc
    - starting to love BatchBook
and (heart) Flowtown for obvious reasons.

Ok, how about this: Use gmail contacts for 1,2,3,5.
For 4, nag me to write a twitter app that will let you set DM reminders to contact people at set intervals.

    Like:
@make_contact says: Have you contacted @carlosdavis this week? Maybe it’s time for an email (carlosdavis@geemail.corn) or phone call (902-109-0210).

You would be able to set the interval for each of the people you follow on twitter, and maybe even import google contacts?

Would people pay for this service?

+1 re: followup.cc and I’m biased since I founded the site.

4 and 5 are certainly possible with followup and work really well since the reminders are threaded.

Given that it’s email based, it can very easily be used in conjunction with other apps you may find. Let me know if you have any feedback or ideas. Thanks,

    Chris
