Warm up for your Wii age or be old for life.

Flair playing mario kartMy girlfriend Claire and I recently acquired a Nintendo Wii. For those of you who don’t know what a Wii is, you may want to get out of the house a bit (come to our place). One thing I should make clear now is that whenever you talk about the Wii, you have to emphisize it’s name (cause it’s hilarious) and say the word Wii as often as possible, as well as replace other words like we with wii; because it’s hilarious. I digress, wii got the Wii, but not for ourselves, but for us and Claire’s sister Hilary and her boyfriend Pat.

Don’t go, the confusing part is over.

Wii play the Wii alot when we have custody over it, which is currently about a two week rotation; I think most families that have to do similar exchanges with children/ trophies or gaming consuls would agree that this is a good schedule (Wii often fight about who will have the Wii for the Wiikends). This is just enough time to beat a few more levels on Mario Kart, or bring your Wii age down on Wii Sports.

Wii AGE! Wii sports, WHAT!?

Ok, Ok, i’ll explain this one. With the game Wii sports you can bowl, play tennis, baseball and a few other “athletic games” – for the most part it’s all in the wrist. In addition to playing all these games you can also test your Wii age, this is the age at which the Wii considers you to be after playing a series of events from the different sports.
Most people who test their Wii age for the first time end up being in their 60′s, if you’re really bad you may end up older. This doesn’t mean that a 65 year old couldn’t end up with a Wii age of 25, it could happen.

While Mario Kart has been a big deal to Claire and I, wii found out a few wiiks back that Hilary and Pat had been working on their Wii ages a whole lot. So the last time wii had the Wii, wii decided to practice “wii sports” a bit in order to bring down our Wii ages. Here is where it gets good.

It turns out that all 4 of us admit to warming up before testing our Wii age. Let me tell you a little something about all 4 of us real quick. Hilary grew up playing soccer and played 4 years of college division 1. Pat similar but with baseball and even played 2 seasons of minor league on the east coast. Claire and I are not anywhere near that kind of athletic level but we have been playing competitive ultimate frisbee for 9 years now, and spend a good chunk of the year staying in good physical condition for the season.

So let me reiterate. All 4 of us warm up before testing our Wii age. Wii play a round of tennis, maybe do some home run hitting, and bowl for 10 minutes.
Are wii so competitive with ourselves that wii refuse to see our Wii age low, even if its our first try in a while? Is it that wii know warming up raises your chances of success? Why warm up when you could just test your wii age over and over and over again?

A couple nights ago Pat and Hilary had us over for dinner and a visit with the wii, Claire and I had been missing it. There was this moment in the night after 40 minutes of wii tennis where someone had suggested wii all test our Wii age. I don’t remember which of us it was, but someone responded with “well i’m only warm on Tennis, i’d have to warm up my other sports”, that’s when I started laughing and realized how ridiculously amazing wii all are and how much fun the Wii is.

Always warm up. Always where the strap around your wrist. And remember it’s not a game, it’s a competition, and you have to win – Especially when it comes to your Wii age.

If you havn’t seen this Wario land ad for the Wii you should check it out, it’ll blow your mind.

Is the Wii Age thing related to Wii Fit? I’ve been watching consumer reviews of that one but I’d be interested to know your opinion on it.
