Phase 2: Where the videos play

May 29th, 2008 · No Comments

I spent some time this past weekend thinking about my blog with Drew. If you don’t know Drew, he’s kind of a big deal, and you’ll know him one day for the sites he builds online. Drew and I have been trying to answer the question “What the hell are we going to do about Whit’s blog…”

We have not yet come up with an answer, but I think I have narrowed it down to a few key ingredients.

1) Sprout widget builder. I think I can make something pretty cool here, I just need to figure out how to make Vimeo and Blip work in the widget. That might be an answer Carnet Williams co-founder and CEO could answer, (I met him a couple times now, and made this little video for our show.)

2) Net Vibes. This site is great. It’s almost exactly what I want, just missing a place for me to write. Also I can’t personalize it enough for it to be a good substitution for my blog. I met the Net Vibes founder Tariq Krim first in Davos at the World Economic forum and again a few weeks ago when he came in the office and we shot this video for Seesmic du Jour.

The trick is getting these 5 video/shows on my page from 3 different sources, with 5 separate accounts.

Play Video
- My Personal Video’s via blip
- My work video’s via blip, youtube or Seesmic
- Video’s I shoot, or co-produce via blip, youtube or Seesmic
- My new simple show, “Totally not Sustainable” via Seesmic
- Random videos from my digital camera or flip camera

I can’t seem to find a player that can support all of those video formats, and I don’t want to have to redirect my readers off the first page of my site. This is why I think a combination of Netvibes and Sprout may work well for me.

I’m hoping that on top of all of the work I have to do for some shows right now, I’ll find some time to make this widget. If you have any more suggestions I’m all ears.
