Ash Wednesday : This week has a lot of names.

February 6th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Wow, Super Bowl Sunday, Sandwiched Monday (as I named it ), Super Tuesday, and today was Ash Wednesday… I can’t wait to find out what day it is tomorrow. But while we’re on the topic of Lent, I have decided to give up what I give up every year, My New Years resolution. Which this year was to get into shape. Let me tell you what a relief it is to not have to worry about that any more. So thank you Lent! Best 40 days of the year.

A man in your condition can totally afford to give up on a resolution like that. Not many others could do the same.

Reconsider giving up completely though will you?
I hear there is a young pup about to make a new home in New Mexico that needs somebody to chase tennis balls with. That someone, needs a solid “fetcher” instinct much like a frizbee catcher can do.

    Have a great day!

it’s only for 40 days. 39 now. I already had a very successful 1st day of lent. I only did pull ups, but that will hardly keep me in shape.

Ha! in the church tradition, today (day after ash wed) is officially called…

    wait for it…

    The Thursday After Ash Wednesday.

And unfortunately, the way the 40 days of Lent is counted is not very straightforward. Lent runs for 6 weeks (the last week of which is “Holy Week”). So wouldn’t that be 42 days, you may ask? Well, the days from ash wed are also included, making it 46.

But, fasting isn’t required on the 6 sundays of Lent, so it ends up being 40 days of fasting (or whatever your selected discipline may be).

So, be sure to get in shape on sundays!

    :)
